Book Two Working Title

frustrated writerFor months I struggled to come up with a name for the next book in my Dragon-Called Legend series. It has been a frustrating experience as I have had to call the book simply, Book Two. Frustrated because the title of the book is important, even if is only a temporary name (I will be talking about this on my Personal Blog in the next day or so – PeterCruikshank.com). Why the title has eluded me is a mystery, but I can only assume it was due to a lack of imagination and that all my creative energy has gone into writing the book itself.

Finally with the help of some other writers, my family, and close friends, I came up with a Working Title. This means the name will most likely be the title of the book, when it is released. However, I leave myself an out by calling it Working Title. By definition, I can change the title, upon release, to whatever I want without feeling bad or bedevilling my readers.

First, you should know that I’ve decided that all four (or more) books in this series will be named “<Something> of the Covenant”. Thanks to my Valley Center Writers Group for helping me realize that this was the path I wanted to follow.

I can’t give away the details of Book Two, however, I can tell you that I had come up with several options; some of which may be used for the remaining books in the series or even for Book Two if I change my mind before the official release.

The option that I thought best captured the essence of this book was the title:

Betrayal of the Covenant

I chose the word Betrayal because when I looked up the definition, it seemed to fit well with the storyline in the book: To deliver or expose to an enemy by treachery or disloyalty. To disappoint the hopes or expectations of. To be unfaithful in guarding, maintaining, or fulfilling.

I hope you find this title as compelling as I did when I came across it. I know many of you are just as anxious as I am for Betrayal of the Covenant to be completed. All I can tell you is that I have made great progress and should finish the First Draft soon. I am already planning what needs to be done to run it through the Revision process so I can get it to my Beta Readers and Editor.
